L-Theanine Review

In recent years a new supplement known as L-theanine hit the market and made some big noise.

If you have been battling anxiety for awhile now you have likely heard of it.

L-theanine manufacturers claim it can reduce your anxiety levels, improve your alertness, and promote deep sleep.

There are even reports saying it can balance out the uncomfortable stimulation you experience after consuming excessive amount of caffeine.

Since everyone with anxiety is being bombarded by this supplements endless list of benefits, I want to give an honest L-theanine review so you can have realistic expectations about this supplement.

How Does L-theanine Provide It’s Benefits?

As L-theanine grows in popularity more studies are being done on this supplement.

The results of many of these studies seem to point to L-theanine’s ability to increase GABA levels in your brain.

The neurotransmitter GABA works alongside Serotonin to provide feelings of calm and relaxation.

If you are deficient in either of these neurotransmitters the result will likely be anxiety issues.

Most supplements aimed at increasing GABA levels get digested before they reach the brain leaving you with no noticeable benefits.

It seems as though L-theanine may be one step ahead of it’s competition in this regard.

L-theanine is additionally proposed to block the excitatory neurotransmitter Glutamate providing further relief from anxiety.

Some studies even suggest L-theanine can mildly influence Dopamine and Serotonin levels as well.

Will L-theanine Cure Your Anxiety Disorder?

Absolutely not.

While it can be an excellent product for reducing stress, L-theanine will not substitute for any necessary prescription medication.

Additionally it is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle.

If you drink alcohol frequently, engage in recreational drug use, consume excessive amounts of caffeine or anything else of that matter, do not waste your money on this product.

Despite its mass popularity and publicity, it is still a super basic and cheap supplement.

There may be evidence to show it supports neurotransmitter balance but it is not strong enough to cause a deficiency or imbalance to cease.

Overcoming an anxiety disorder takes lot more effort than simply taking a supplement.  In fact, it takes a lot more effort than taking prescription medication.

Will L-theanine Reduce Your Stress Levels?

Now that we are done insulting this supplement and we have removed any ridiculous expectations, we can get into what it is actually beneficial for.

As someone who has lived with an anxiety disorder for years, I do enjoy this supplement on a daily basis.

Like I said before, it won’t magically cure your anxiety disorder.  It probably won’t help you through a panic attack either if that is where you are currently at.

It will however help take a slight edge off before bed or help you simmer down before or after a day at work.  If taken regularly, it may also improve any anxiety induced fatigue.

L-theanine is a supplement most people with anxiety can benefit from when combined with a healthy lifestyle and other essential supplements like magnesium and fish oils.

If you do choose to use L-theanine remember it is a supplement not a medication and the results will be as so.

Where Can You Get Good L-theanine?

I find PeakNootropics has very high quality L-theanine at a great price.

Additionally they have great customer service and a 30 day money back guarantee if you don’t like their product!

Now that you know what to expect, consider giving it a shot.
