A Mind Full Of Love – The Mindfulness Exercise That Will Rewire Your Brain

Imagine what your life would look like if your mind was full of love.

Rather than feeling overwhelmed by negative thoughts, your mind tended to automatically drift towards happiness and good feelings.

This isn’t as far out of reach as you may imagine.

With the right exercise, and a little bit of practice, the black clouds that roam your mind can soon be gone.

Through a daily mindfulness styled exercise, you can naturally steer your brain towards more positive emotions.

If you struggle with depression or anxiety, you know all too well that your natural emotional state is one of concern or discomfort.

Isn’t it time you took the wheel and changed that?

What Is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness style meditations have gained huge popularity as a means to combat anxiety and depression.

Wikipedia describes mindfulness as: the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to the internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment.

Most mindfulness exercises will have you focus on your surroundings with no purpose other than bringing you back to the present moment.

While this may temporarily stop you from worrying, it will become boring very quickly.

Acknowledging the presence of your TV in the room or the fact that your bed sheet is blue.

Sounds thrilling doesn’t it?

Not exactly.

If that was as exciting as mindfulness ever got, it is doubtful it would have ever gained any traction.

Mindfulness caught my attention years ago but it wasn’t until I found this mindfulness exercise in a book called The Power that I began to experience therapeutic benefits from mindfulness.

A Mind Full Of Love

What is it that you truly love in this world;  What things provide you with joy throughout the day?

You would be wise to focus intently on the things that make you happy.

As a fundamental law of psychology, the human mind can only entertain one thought at a time.

If you make a habit of focusing on the things you love, it becomes hard for your mind to think of things that are negative.

Unfortunately most people do not exhibit gratitude in their daily life.  It seems as though it is a choice one must make, not an emotion we are naturally prone to experience.

When stuck in the rut of depression, exhibiting gratitude and love is even more of a chore than usual.

Ironically, gratitude needs to be a part of your life more than ever when battling depression or any of life’s hardships.

If you continually focus on all of the good things in your life, you will automatically find more things to be happy about.

If you choose to focus on the negative things in your life, you will consequently never run out of things to get down about.

When you grasp this concept 100%, your life will begin to change.

“Gratitude for the abundance you have received is the best insurance that the abundance will continue” – Mohammed

Fall In Love With Life

Love the sounds of the birds chirping in the trees, the light of the sun beaming through the clouds, a warm breeze striking your senses on a spring night.

Slow down, take a second, and enjoy the food on your plate.

Love the company of the people around you.

If your shirt is comfortable, focus on how good it makes you feel.

We are just standing on the tip of the iceberg.

Daily life provides countless little things placed in your day to give you joy.

Unfortunately things like smartphones, high speed internet, and video games have numbed us to the smaller stimuli life so generously sends our way.

Put the distractions away and focus.

With your new sense of focus and clarity, go out of your way to find things you love.

“When one has fully entered the realm of love, the world – no matter how imperfect – becomes rich and beautiful – it consists solely of opportunities for love” – Soren Kierkegaard

Feel The Love

It is one thing to think of things you love but the true power lies in your ability to feel and absorb the love these things give you.

Make love your new life force and soak it in like a plant in the sun.

Synthesize the love you feel for the things and people in your life into gratitude and you will blossom emotionally.

Your mental health will become rooted and stable, like a strong tree that braves the winds and storms of life.

The Law Of Attraction And Love

The law of attraction states that the things you choose to focus on are the things you will attract more of into your life.

By keeping a mind full of love and intentionally amplifying those feelings, through the law of attraction, you will bring more lovable things into your life.

How would your relationships and friendships change if you showed and felt more love for all of those close to you?

What would your life look like if you woke up full of feelings of gratitude rather than self pity?

There really isn’t a single area of your life, or a single person, who can’t benefit from this style of living.

The mindfulness exercise we discussed has all but changed my life over the course of a few months.

I have gone from focusing on one issue in my life to the next, to loving life with child like enthusiasm.

My past was rocky like many of yours.  I was unstable and stuck in the rut of negative thinking for years.

I would overcome one obstacle only to be confronted by another seemingly right after.

There was always something in my life that was negative and important enough to occupy my mental space.

By beginning to focus on feelings of love and gratitude, there is no longer space to hold onto these negative thoughts.

Life feels abundant.

When I say this can change your life, I mean it.  If it helped me, who is to say it won’t help you with the addition of your participation?

Keeping a mind full of love and positive thoughts is natural medication.

Love Is A Universal Force

If you look at any major religion or system of philosophy you will see the power of love being preached.

It is an inescapable force that acts as the motor of the universe.

Without love, you would not experience passion of any sort, you would never enjoy a hobby or an amazing relationship.

Without love in your life, you are on a collision course with depression. Conversely, if you are depressed, I guarantee finding more love in your life would dramatically change things.

If all of this sounds like a myth to you, simply go to any library and pick up any self help book, book on philosophy, or scripture.

Without a doubt, love and gratitude will be preached and praised to the heavens and back.

If that still doesn’t work for you, try living with love for an entire week.  You will be sold within a day, I guarantee it.

You can’t escape the power of love.

Stop running from it, openly embrace it.

Watch as your life begins to change.

I love this article (and your site). Full of wisdom. I’ve found there’s amazing power in taking time to stop and focus on the things that make us feel good. It can be a struggle to break free of the mind’s tendency to focus on what we lack, and what it perceives as problems – it has a gravity all too easily pulls us under.

But sitting and focusing on what we want, and vividly imagining it, actually generates positive feeling states. It does rewire the brain. After a terrible breakup I would just sit and instead of going over the hurt, i’d force my mind focus on feeling love again…pretty soon my heart was simply glowing and it lifted my whole energy and emotional state. The power to hack the mind and create feeling states that uplift us is immensely powerful. Thanks for sharing this 🙂

Hey Rory thanks for the insightful response, I love comments like these!

I had a similar situation with my long term girlfriend. When we split up (which turned out to be temporary), I was devastated. After a few months I began to wholeheartedly appreciate the times we did get to have together and it was the gratitude that helped me become a better man and eventually win her back.

The power of our thoughts is incredible. Through practice and effort we can make so much more out of our lives!
